Grown in subtropical areas, the Moringa Oleifera tree, better known as the “Miracle Tree” is considered to be amongst the most nutritious plants ever discovered. The fresh Moringa powder, derived from the Moringa tree, is deep green and has a potent nutty smell. Moringa is found to contain a higher ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) score, approximately 157,000, than most foods known to have antioxidant capabilities (acai berries, blueberries, dark chocolate, garlic, goji berries, and green tea to name a few). The high ORAC allows the plant to contain seven times the amount of Vitamin C found in oranges, double the amount of protein found in milk, four times as much calcium and Vitamin A, and three times the potassium found in bananas.

A new study published in the journal Oncology Letters has followed up on previous research that demonstrated the therapeutic potential of water-soluble extracts of Moringa leaf in treating various types of cancers, such as lung, breast, esophagus, liver and skin cancers. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12875626
In this latest study, a team of Korean researchers examined how water-soluble extracts of Moringa leaf affect the viability (ability to live) of human liver and lung cancer cells. The researchers began their study by testing several doses of a Moringa leaf extract on human liver cancer cells. They moved on to treating these cancer cells with the Moringa extract and saw a dose-dependent response in cancer cell death, with 96.7% of the cells showing evidence of cell death at the highest dose (400μ/ml).
The liver and lung cancer cells, showed a reduced viability and this coincided with what was observed in the cell culture experiment. In simpler words, the orally administered Moringa leaf extract showed the ability to successfully inhibit and prevent cancer cell spreading and multiplication in a living organism. Moreover, the in experiment examining the liver cell, the Moringa extract was seen to be more effective than doxorubicin, a common chemotherapy drug.
The results of this study bode well for Moringa as a potential treatment for various types of cancer. Naturally, alternative treatments to chemotherapy, that are highly potent and low in toxicity, are welcomed with open arms. The study that utilized water-soluble Moringa plants opens the door for treatment of cancer from the comfort of one’s own home and the prevention of all the negative side effects that come with conventional chemotherapy treatments.
